Installation Guide: Snaplock Colorbond Panels

There’s no shortage of innovative metal cladding products that make your dream home possible. However, finding the perfect solution isn’t always simple, with each product having pros and cons depending on your needs. While standing seam has emerged as a hugely popular choice, a stellar alternative is Slaplock panels.

Perfect for achieving a modern aesthetic, the major difference from standing seam is that Snaplock doesn’t require seam closing tools. Instead, a clever design allows the panels to snap together, creating a tight seal and delivering a contemporary look. Best of all, Snaplock makes it possible to achieve horizontal, vertical and diagonal lay patterns.

Renowned for its cost-effective nature, superior performance and easy-to-install process, Snaplock is a great choice for everyday Australian homes. Ready to install Snaplock metal cladding? Here, we cover the fundamental steps required to complete the job. Get in touch with Hooky’s Roofing to learn more.

Step 1: Prepare the surface

Before you can begin installing Snaplock panels, you need to prepare a strong and dependable substrate. While this underlayer might be made from metal or a raw plywood substrate, achieving a smooth, consistent surface will help protect the Snaplock panels from needless damage, such as dents or punctures.

Step 2: Waterproof the substrate

Once the substrate has been prepared, it must be covered in a protective membrane, such as proctor wrap. It’s essential this membrane is waterproof yet breathable, as this allows condensation to pass from the interior cavity while preventing outside water from entering. Naturally, this helps protect your home against leaks, mould and mildew.

Step 3: Install battens, flashing and panels

When the substrate is completely waterproofed, it’s time to install the battens. This allows for other pieces, like the flashing, to be connected to the wall. Next, add the first Snaplock panel and attach the subsequent sections until the wall is complete.

Step 4: Add the roof capping

Once a section is finished, metal capping is added along the top rim to prevent leaks. During this process, the addition of butyl waterproofing tape and silicone is also used to keep water from entering the wall cavity.
